'Sea Paddle at West Angle Bay, 30 May 2023

We all met at West Angle Bay for a hoped start for 6.30pm. There was a lovely mix of people, including children, ladies and men...and a broad range of abilities and confidence.

Attendees (total 19 people, 19 boats): 5 responsible adults, 9 other adults, 5 children. This turnout included 5 ladies. There were 2 newbies to the training night - Sian and Andy.

We set off approx 6.45pm on very calm waters, with sunny skies and no wind.

To everyone's excitement, a seal popped it's head up a few times and had an inquisitive snoop around. By the time I fumbled to get my camera out, he'd disappeared. Lush experience though!

There was a chance of a short stop, enroute, by some rocks, where a few people could get out, park their kayaks up and stretch their legs.

We headed back at around 8.25pm for what was a very easy paddle back.

The waters and conditions were so peaceful, this was a perfect opportunity (after finishing the main paddle and being close to the shore) for any novices to practice some rolls. Any partakers were closely monitored by responsible adults, who will rescue them, if necessary, and let them know where they went wrong.

A team effort again made sure all boats and kit were carried to and from the shore. There wasn't far to go in this case and the ground was flat.

A few of us stayed by for a social pint, with chats and lots of laughs, at the Hibernia Inn.'
