So on a beautiful August morning we set out to paddle around Skomer island departing from Martins haven early to catch the tide.
We left the bay and turned left into the first sound where there was a good tide flow to help us along, then paddled along the back of the island exploring all the coves and caves. Most of the puffins had gone much to our disappointment, but we were lucky to see a small group. On landing we paddled a little further and came across some swimmers who were raising money for a charity. Well done to them.
There were also a few baby seals on the beaches which we made a point of not disturbing ,
And there were a few nosey seals that kept swimming along to see what we were up to.
As we turned at the end of the island to start the paddle back to Martin's haven we could see in the distance towards Ramsey island a few dolphins playing in the tidal flows.
We called back into the sound to check out the small tidal race, after a short time heading back to Martin's haven to load the cars with all the kit. On our homeward journey we stopped and had a pint and debrief in the local pub.
It was a lovely day for a paddle and well worth the early start.
